Brother Leroy Foote

 -1999-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 13, 1998 and the musician for the festivities was Kendra Morrison. After the Installation of the Master he gave a quick overview of the year ahead and introduced his wife and family. After the ceremony there was a reception line and dinner following in the dining hall.

In February it was announced that the piece of property to the west of the parking lot was for sale and the Temple Association was authorized to offer up to $25,000.00 for the purchase. It would have been used for extra parking which is a problem at Clovis Lodge when having large events.

In March there was a special election held for Junior Warden. The senior Deacon, Brad Bradway was elected to finish the year as Junior Warden. It was announced that there would be a meeting on March 15th about the formation of a research lodge and it was also announced that the Lodge had a new web site who's address was "www.clovislodge.com".

The coveted Hiram Award was given to Bro. Douglas N. Cairns, Past Master of Clovis Lodge and Inspector for the 293rd Masonic District. It was a nice evening and a great meal, it was great because I didn't have to cook it! hehehe

There were other meeting's held for the formation of a research lodge on April 9th and May 1st. At the meeting in May the "Masonic Origins Research Club" was formed whose sole interest was the formation of the research lodge.

In April there were 4 "Student of the Year" certificates were given out in honor of our Public Schools program. In May there was the annual Past Masters Night and Bro. Jeff Woods received his third degree, also Yosemite Lodge 99 came to Clovis Lodge on this evening to claim the traveling gavel.

In May it was announced that an offer for $17,000.00 had been made on the piece of property next to the parking lot and the owner was considering the offer. Also it was passed by motion and vote to contribute $295.00 to the Student of the Year at Weldon Elementary School who had been selected as representative for the state wide student of the year.

In the stated meeting in June it was announced that the offer for the property had been rejected and there were no further negotiations planned. In an effort to conserve funds it was decided to combine the trestle boards of July and August into one.

In July there were 3 50-year presentations made to Bros. George William Johnson, Glenn Arthur Johnson and Everett George Rank Jr. On the 24th of July there was a joint meeting held in Clovis Lodge of all of the three Research Lodge's in California. There was a great lunch and a nice time was enjoyed by all.

In September there was discussion had about the use of the new Child ID program out by the Grand Lodge of California and it was decided that Clovis Lodge should provide this opportunity for the community and volunteers were asked for. There was also a discussion about buying a Cowboy Hat for the Grand Master which was passed but at the same time we decided not to help a school and a young man who was trying to raise money for his travels to the National Young Leaders Conference held in New York City. Hmmmm...whats wrong with this picture? hehehe

In October, Sierra Vista Elementary School was officially adopted by Clovis Lodge. We allowed $600.00 for the purchase of after school sports equipment and some of our members went out and purchased the items for the school.

In November it was announced that we were going to be preparing a spaghetti dinner for Sierra Vista Elementary School and that we would have the Child ID booth there also, requiring a lot of volunteers. The volunteers turned out in droves on this wet and cold evening. It made for a very good showing from Clovis Lodge. It was also decided that the Lodge purchase a generator for the use on parade floats, motion carried and we are now the proud owners of a brand new generator! hehehe

In December the Lyon's family burst upon Clovis Lodge in the form of Bros. Jared and Bret Lyons receiving their third degrees in front of their father Bill Lyons. At the stated meeting it was decided that the Secretary was being underpaid and was given a raise (it was so sad seeing a grown man cry like that...hehehe), also on this evening the Tehran Temple held a "Cold Sands" before the stated meeting for 4 of the brethren of Clovis Lodge.

Brethren lost in this year were Bro's. Lewis Lavern Blain, James Edward Long, Olen Donal Smith, John DeBrum, Orval Leon McAdams, Winfred Erwin Atkinson, Alfred Marion Steitz, Milton Shannon, Gary Howard Glover, Spence N. Edenborough, Cranford Gray Courington, Raymond Earl Kepley, and Aubrey Arlon Carter.
